About Me

My name is Minh Nguyen - I am a math teacher, club advisor, and former sports coach at Independence High School. I was born and raised in  San Jose and have lived here nearly my entire life.

I am asking for your vote in this November’s election to join the Board of Trustees for Alum Rock Union School District.

From my first teaching position in an underserved community in rural Louisiana, my career has been rooted in service. My focus as a teacher is not just the contents of the course, but to prepare students for their lives beyond our classroom. Whether they want to go on to college, trade school, or another pathway, I have always done my best to prepare them for what’s next by helping them uncover the optimal route for them

My parents immigrated to America for better opportunities - something that I have in common with many students in Alum Rock. I have capitalized on the opportunities provided here and want to encourage students in Alum Rock to do the same so that they can lead fulfilling lives.

I currently serve the students of Alum Rock at the high school level - my goal for being on the School Board is to get involved with their education even earlier. Instead of waiting for students to make it to high school to start working with them, I intend on changing their trajectories at a younger age to set them up for even greater success down the line.

Choosing the students. Every time.

Choosing the students. Every time.

“I’d say your teaching style is linear and easy to follow along with. I thoroughly enjoyed the 3-4 days with the “observe, practice, review” routine each week. I can wholeheartedly say that you were friendly, welcoming, and unbiased as an instructor”
— Nathan Nations (former student)
“I just want to say that I am really grateful that you were my math teacher last year. Your class made me realize that if I wanted something to have, I have to actually work for it... In the end, it made me understand all of my work assignments and changed my mindset for the better. I also am very grateful that you gave me the confidence to do summer school as I had a fun time!”
— Ronnika Pat (class of 2026)
“My grandson struggled with math all through school. Until Mr. Minh came to Vidalia school. He helped my grandson understand math. I am so thankful for this teacher”
— Mrs. Alexander (guardian of former student)
“I love this class. In the beginning of the year I was scared of this class because people told me you were a hard teacher. I’m glad to prove them wrong. Thank you for being my 1st high school math teach”
— Aleah Le (class of 2027)
“Personally, math was not my favorite subject simply because it wasn't easy. I remember crying because problems seemed impossible. However, Mr. Nguyen believed in us more than we believed in ourselves and continued to guide us step-by-step until we were able to do it on our own. His consistency took a lot of patience - I don't remember him getting frustrated with us, rather only being motivational. As a college student, I keep him in mind because I never had a teacher pull me to the side and tell me that THEY KNOW I CAN DO IT and that they BELIEVE IN ME.”
— Angel Heckard (former student)
